'I transformed my body training like Chris Hemsworth – then I met him at the gym'

A man who hated how he looked after a holiday illness left him unable to eat or exercise completely transformed his body by following the same diet and fitness plan used by Hollywood hunk Chris Hemsworth.

YouTuber Erik Conover signed up for a challenge to eat, drink and follow a strict workout plan devised by the team who help Chris get into shape for movie roles.

But he was left completely stunned when he discovered his hero had been tracking his progress and invited him to work out with him in New York.

Erik, 29, told Mirror Online: “The workout was intense. It was full body circuits.

“Chris is an intense training guy. It was surreal.

“Surprisingly I managed to keep up.

Erik lost a lot of weight when he became sick on holiday

“We hit it off immediately. We chatted for 10 minutes. He was very easy to talk with and super genuine.

“I never even thought that he would see the video.”

Erik has always been really into his fitness but decided to take on the challenge after a dream holiday to the Philippines ended in disaster.

He got a really bad case of food poisoning which left him in hospital with extreme dehydration.

He’s over the moon with his new look

He was unable to work out or do any exercise, and he couldn’t eat properly for weeks.

He said: “I was pretty out of it. It was the most unpleasant experience of my life.

“I have always been relatively fit. Fitness has been a big part of my life.”

Thankfully he made a full recovery but he lost a huge amount of muscle mass through months of not exercising or eating.

So when his girlfriend saw the Chris Hemsworth challenge, run by his health and fitness programme Centr, he was keen to find out more.

He followed the programme for 90 days

He said: “Immediately I wanted to try it out. It’s very unique.

“You see these actors who undergo these crazy transformations for roles.

“I thought it was unique that he was offering he team of experts.

“The workout was pretty intense. I went head first into it.”

Erik trained twice a day, combining a number of different workouts including boxing, HIIT and kettlebells.

Erik says Chris was really down to earth

But it wasn’t just the diet plans and training that Erik really benefited from, and he also found the programme’s wellness provision really helpful, including the sleep meditation took.

While Erik loved the meal options on the food plan, he admits he found the diet the toughest part of the challenge.

“I’m a sucker for eating sweets. Eating cleanly was pretty difficult, but the app has so many options there are so many different flavours.”

Now Erik has finished his challenge and is over the moon with the results.

He said: “My plan was to put on the mass that I lost and I did that and then some.

“I couldn’t even ask for any more than I’ve achieved.

“A lot of the work outs are based around the core. I have never had my core in such good shape.”
