When picking a name for your baby, it’s always best to opt for something both parents agree on, so you don’t end up feeling regret or hating the choice down the line.

However, one expectant parent claims they made the mistake of agreeing to let their partner choose the name if they were having a boy, while they were going to select the moniker for a baby girl.

The couple recently found out they are having a son and the parent-to-be admits that they regret making the name deal as the partner wants to give their baby a rather bizarre first name.

As such they have thrown out the ‘agreement’, but they are still having issues settling on a final name choice, as their partner really wants to call their son Black.

Yes, like the colour.

They revealed all in an anonymous post on Reddit’s Am I The A**hole forum, writing: “My partner and I are having our first child (yay) and I stupidly made a deal with them where they got to name our child if it’s a boy, I get to name it if it’s a girl (I know, I f’d up).

“Well, we are having a boy and the names my partner is coming up with are… not for me.

“I have managed to convince them to forget the deal we made so at least that element is gone BUT this does still mean they seem to have a little more say than I do in the situation.

“Anyway, the name they are really eager to use is ‘Black’. We both want something a bit different without being too hippy-dippy and this is the outcome.

“Their reasoning is something along the lines of colours as names are already a thing (e.g. Violet, Blue) and black is just a cool colour. They just think it sounds cool really.”

The writer goes on to say that they are concerned that the name could trigger sensitive race issues, especially as they are both white.

“They think this is crazy logic, that it has nothing to do with race and making it about race is absurd. FWIW we are not American so race isn’t this huge deal like it is over there.”

They add: “Just to clarify – we will not name our child anything we don’t both agree on, but this convo has now become more about whether or not the name is just a colour or something more charged and neither of us can really see the other’s perspective.”

More than 2,000 people responded to the post with many agreeing it was a bad name choice.

One person said: “There are a lot of other names that mean black: Jett Coal Ebony Sable Night Slate Onyx Shadow Obsidian.”

While another replied to that comment, proclaiming: “These would all be extremely embarrassing things to name a kid.”

A third joked they should call their child ‘grey’ instead.

Someone else wrote: “NTA that is really a terrible name.”
