I injured my back now I can't afford to buy food: My Wigan Pier Story


Electrician Oskar Bartman, 45, has been forced to give up work because of ill health. As he tells Maryam Qaiser, he’s relying on Coventry Food Bank to feed himself.

I am not in a very good situation at the moment.

I can’t work because of a back injury so I’m relying on help from Coventry Food Bank.

Before this I was working as an electrician. I would like to do this again after my recovery.

The only money I have coming in is from my PIP benefit. Some of my benefits have been stopped temporarily, which I am appealing. The fact that my benefits have stopped, has become a very big problem for me.

 

I survive on £300 a week, which goes towards rent, bills and food.

The Salvation Army has been very good and provided accommodation which is affordable.
