I get viciously mum-shamed for ‘dumping’ my kids on my parents – people say I’m lazy but I need the break

A MUM-OF-TWO has hit back at vicious mum-shamers who called her “lazy” for “dumping” her kids on her parents – and insisted she needs time to herself.

Caitlin Fladager, 26, from Vancouver, explained how her two children – under the age of eight – stay at their grandparents’ house at least one night a week.

Posting on her Facebook page, Caitlin wrote: “Can we stop shaming parents for having a break from their kids, while they spend quality time with their grandparents? I don’t know when it became so un-normalized for children to have a good, close relationship with their grandparents.”

Hitting back at mum-shamers, Caitlin claims people will often say: “I could never let my kids be watched by someone else weekly!”

However, Caitlin says the set-up works for her family as her children get to forge a close relationship with their grandparents while also allowing her to have a break.

“My parents look forward to having my children once a week, and plan out so many exciting activities to do with them,” she added. “My children also can’t wait for the day that they know they get to spend the whole time with their grandparents, and constantly ask when they get to go see papa and grandma again.”

Caitlin got pregnant with her high school sweetheart Noah when she was 18 years old and the married couple now share two children, Ariana and Jack.

Insisting that she’s not “lazy” to rely on her parents, she urged her followers to “stop looking at it as ‘oh wow they just dump their kids off on their parents'” and appreciate “how awesome [it is that her] kids are growing up so close to their grandparents.”

She added: “My kids keep my parents young, and my parents teach my kids things I can’t yet.

“I will be forever grateful my kids are so close to their grandparents. It’s one of the most important relationships they will ever have.”

Caitlin’s post has racked up over 4,200 “likes” and fans praised her honesty.

One replied: “I LOVED going to my grandparents house when I was younger. And I am thankful I was able to spend so much time with them because now my relationship with them is amazing!”

“They’re jealous they haven’t got amazing offering grandparents like yours, justifying their own unhelpful grandparents absence,” another added. “My mum helped me raise mine, could not have wanted a better person.”

A third wrote: “Mine spent A LOT of time with his grandparents. Never hurt any of us lol. What works for one, may not work for another.”
