A DAD has taken to Facebook to pen a heartfelt letter about his wife – who he describes as “a miracle” – after watching her suffer immense pain while giving birth.
William Trice Battle, from the US, said he felt inspired to put his feelings into words after explaining he had “never seen such love and strength before” when he watched Lauren give birth to their son Roman.
The couple have been married just over a year and already have one little boy, Kannon (who is William’s stepson).
Despite wanting to be a “rock” for Lauren during labour, William never imagined it would be one of the most profound moments of his life.
“I honestly don’t know how she did it. The pain was so intense, so overwhelming, that even I felt it,” he wrote on Facebook.
“Everyone in the room felt it, yet she pulled through. Her pain was gruesome.
“I found myself gritting my teeth when she did, tensing my entire body when her contractions hit and shedding tears along with her.
“All the while realising that I was merely a passenger, never to truly understand the excruciating pain she was experiencing.
“She gave her labour every ounce of life and energy she had in her. And then gave a little bit more.
“And through it all, at the end of it she selflessly gave all of us a glimpse into what she has been enjoying exclusively to herself for the past nine months.
“We all finally get to love and hold the boy that she sacrificed her body, comfort, energy and self for.
“My son is an absolute miracle. Babies are absolute miracles. But to me, the greater miracle is his mother, who has shown me what selfless sacrifice really is.
“What love really is. My wife is the miracle.”
Other Facebook users were so touched by the dad’s open letter that his words have now gone viral.
William told Bored Panda how his wife had barely slept in two days, explaining all attention was on their new baby son.
He said the inspiration behind his letter “came from a desire to pay homage to the most incredible woman I know” adding: “The chaos had settled, and my wife Lauren was nursing our beautiful boy, Roman Creed.
“It’s as if holding our son took away all the pain, all the fear, all the anxiety. Nothing else at that moment mattered to her and I knew just from looking at her that she would have gone through it all again for him. I’ve never seen such love, such strength, from anyone like that before.”
William even has advice for other husbands and urges them to put themselves in their partner’s shoes and appreciate the sacrifices they make for their children.
Other Facebook users were incredibly touched by William’s letter, with one calling it “such a beautiful tribute” while another said: “This is true love. Enjoy your family!”
One woman even admitted to shedding a tear while reading William’s words.
“Beautifully said by someone with compassion and love for his wife,” she wrote.
“If only more men would put pen to paper about their love and admiration for a woman. I cried when reading this.”
William explained he was “so thankful” his words had touched the lives of others.
