Hull City striker Tom Eaves scored his first goal for the club to inflict the first defeat of Garry Monk’s reign as Sheffield Wednesday manager.
Just moments after coming on as a second-half substitute he powerfully headed in Eric Lichaj’s floated cross.
The visitors’ best opportunity of the game fell to Sam Winnall shortly after half-time, but he somehow headed wide from inside the six-yard box.
Victory takes Hull eight points clear of the Championship relegation zone, while Wednesday slip down to eighth.
