There is no better time to start than the Etihad on Saturday in what Lloris feels must be seen as a six-pointer already if Spurs are to keep on the heels of Manchester City this season.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino said on the eve of the season that he finally agreed with those who say his team should be aiming to deliver in terms of silverware.
However, the Spurs captain said: “We have been talking about trophies now for at least two seasons.
“It is one thing to talk about it – it is another thing to show what we can do. We don’t need to talk any more about winning trophies.
“It is the ambition of the board, it is the ambition of the manager and the coaching staff and it is the ambition of the players.
“So we don’t really need to add any more words about this. Just focus on our performances and our games and try to be as consistent as we can and finish as high as we can.
“We don’t want to lose energy talking, we just want day-by-day to do our best. Of course we can capitalise by taking belief from the last two or three seasons when we have been great and we just have to carry on.
“But there is no secret about how you get there. It is about work, it is about mentality, it is about personality. But I think we are looking forward to this season.
“It is important to get things right from day one, which we did, and now we are just preparing to do our best in the next game.”
That’s not to say Lloris does not want the players themselves to share their ambitions behind closed doors.
“It is one thing to say things to the media; it is another thing to tell the truth inside the changing rooms,” he said.
“That is the most important thing – to speak the real truths between ourselves. Then we need to go out and show what we are saying on the pitch.”
Ultimately, that is the key. Already, after just one game, both Liverpool and City are above them in the table. While it sounds silly talking about title race deciders in week two of the season, both Tottenham’s rivals slip up so rarely, that is the reality.
“We all know it is the type of game that could make the difference,” Lloris said. “The games between Manchester City and Liverpool last season had a good impact for City.
“It is going to be a big, big game. It may only be the second week of the season, but every big game can be decisive so it is important to be ready.
“We are playing away so it is important to get something there if we can.”
