Hugh Grant reckons becoming a father has saved him from being a ‘scary, old, golf-addicted bachelor’.

The Notting Hill star, 60, has had five children in the last nine years – two with his ex Tinglan Hong and three with his wife, producer Anna Eberstein.

He admitted that it’s ‘knackering’ being a father in an ‘old man’s body,’ but it’s all ‘worth it’ for that warm, paternal glow he feels inside.

‘I think I turned into a slightly scary old golf-addicted bachelor, and to tell you the truth I’m glad to see the back of him,’ he told Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine.

‘I mean it’s completely knackering trying to be a young father in an old man’s body and I’ve found that if you’re 60 and there are five small children in the house you can’t have a hangover either. But it’s worth it. Absolutely.’

And it’s not just Hugh’s personal life that his little tots have affected – the Bridget Jones star reckons his acting skills have improved since he became a father.

‘People say to me, “You’ve got better as an actor in the last ten years… Why?” And I sometimes think it may be because of the kids,’ the Love Actually actor admitted.

Hugh dated the likes of Elizabeth Hurley and Jemima Khan before announcing in 2011 that he was having his first child following a ‘fleeting affair’ with Tinglan Hong.

They are parents to Tabitha, eight, and Felix, seven.

The Four Weddings And A Funeral also welcomed son John with Swedish star Anna Eberstein, who he married in 2018. They later became parents to two more children.

It seems Liz Hurley agrees that Hugh’s mellowed since becoming a father, and previously called him an ‘enchanting dad’.

She joked: ‘Having these kids has transformed him from a very miserable person into a fairly miserable person. It’s improved him. He’s gone up the scale.’
