Hugh Bonneville eats a mountain of marmalade sandwiches with Paddington Bear and, tbh, we’re slightly baffled

Hugh Bonneville spent the day eating marmalade sandwiches with Paddington Bear and we have a lot of questions.

Why are there so many marmalade sandwiches just for him? Did he eat said sandwiches all by himself? Does he even like marmalade?

How many did it take for him to eat until he felt seriously sick? Plus, are there any going spare? Because y’know, Hugh, we wouldn’t say no.

Hugh, 56, stopped by Leicester Square for the unveiling of its new attraction Scenes In The Square on Thursday, which sees a series of new statues celebrating cinema over the last century.

There’s Mr Bean, Mary Poppins, Bugs Bunny and, of course, Paddington Bear – hence why Hugh was making a visit with his marmalade sandwiches in hand (which we all know are Paddington’s snack of choice).

The actor starred in the Paddington movie and its sequel as Henry Brown, alongside Julie Walters, Sally Hawkins Madeleine Harris and Ben Whishaw.

The first movie was released back in 2014, with Paddington 2 following three years later in 2017.

Hugh is also known for starring in hit series Downtown Abbey, where he played Robert, the Earl of Grantham, for five years, before making a comeback in the Downtown Abbey movie that was finally released last year.

Many familiar faces were back to see the series jump from the small screen to the big screen, including Elizabeth McGovern as the Countess of Grantham, Jim Carter as Charles Carson, Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary Talbot and Maggie Smith as the Dowager Countess.

If you haven’t yet see the movie, it’s set in 1927 and centres around a royal visit to Downtown, which causes a stir among the Crawleys and the servants as they prepare for the King and Queen’s arrival.

It was one final hurrah for the cast to all get together, four years after filming wrapped on the ITV series.

Recalling the moment the TV series came to an end, Hugh said in an interview back in 2015: ‘I suppose when we started saying goodbye to the regular and semi-regular cast. That was strange.

‘The first time we actually said, “That’s a wrap on…” that was weird. I thought, “It actually really is coming to an end.’
