Huddersfield star knows what it will take to stop Liverpool going back top

Jonathan Hogg reckons Huddersfield will have to knock down a brick wall for a huge title shock to happen at Anfield tonight, writes Jeremy Cross.

The Terriers will be one of the biggest underdogs in top flight history when they take on Liverpool .

Jan Siewert’s flops have lost 20 of their last 22 games, while the Reds have tasted defeat just once all season.

Jurgen Klopp’s men can go back to the top of the table with a win and Hogg reckons their chances of doing so are in the best possible hands with Virgil Van Dijk in defence.

Hogg voted for Van Dijk as PFA Player of the Year and admits there is no better defender in world football.

Jonathan Hogg knows nobody expects a miracle tonight

The midfielder said: “I voted for him because he’s got everything. He’s like a Rolls Royce of a defender.

“He’s so calm and such a leader. I wouldn’t mind having him in my back four.

“He deserves it for what he’s done for Liverpool since he arrived. Everyone used to say they needed a centre half and leader – and he’s gone there and done that.

“He is the main man at the back. The driving force of the team, even though he is a centre half.

“Everything goes through him. He starts play and he’s like a wall. It’s like playing against a machine. He’s top class, the best in the world.”

Huddersfield want to go out with a bang

Siewert has told the Terriers to relish the chance to ruin the host’s title dreams – and reckons all the pressure is on Klopp’s men.

He said: “We shouldn’t be stupid and say we are going there as favourites.

“But we have the possibility to go there and perform and express ourselves.

“We have to show our qualities. Jurgen is one of the best managers in the world and Liverpool are a fantastic team, but we have to go out there and enjoy it.

“I think the big pressure is all on them. They are fighting for the title, so we can go there and be both excited and brave. Show we can compete with them.”
