HUDDERSFIELD 1-1 MAN UTD

FT: United fail to beat relegated Huddersfield and cannot mathematically qualify for the Champions League. It’s Thursday night football for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side next season.

96: One last attack? Diogo Dalot looks to clip the ball back into the penalty area but there’s tons of Huddersfield bodies in there to clear it. Marcus Rashford connects with the rebound but it’s not good enough to beat Lossl.

94: Do these United players realise they will NOT qualify for the Champions League if they lose today? Diogo Dalot has just reached the byline before accidentally thumping it straight out of play.

92: Ironic cheers as Paul Pogba smashes a 25-yarder into space. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer just sits, motionless, watching as it sails up, up and away.

Jones has been booked for taking his time over the goal kick.

90: Eight minutes added time as Adama Diakhaby replaces Isaac Mbenza. That was celebrated more by the Huddersfield fans than their guests. They want this win today.

89: Chances! Tahith Chong should give Manchester United a dramatic late win but his angled effort is superbly tipped away by Lossl. Paul Pogba collects the rebound and leathers it against the crossbar.

But what’s this? Huddersfield break and they have numbers! Grant has support but decides to go along and David de Gea blocks with his legs.

87: Chelsea have put things to bed at Stamford Bridge. It’s 3-0 thanks to Gonzalo Higuain. So that means if Manchester United don’t win today – they will be playing Europa League football next season.

85: Remember when you just KNEW that Manchester United would score a late goal?

Huddersfield vs Man Utd: Premier League table, fixtures, goals, score and updates

83: Chong embarks on a solo run forward but slips as he pulls the trigger allowing Mooy to nick the ball away from him. No obvious sign of a winner here at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Victor Lindelof, who is possibly carrying a knock, is replaced by Diogo Dalot. I think Lindelof had a knock because he’s marched straight down the tunnel.

80: Final ten minutes and guess who’s doing all the attacking? Yep, Huddersfield.

78: Phew! Scott McTominay is fine to continue. I think we’re due about 10 minutes of added time after the injuries/corner flag fiasco.

75: McTominay is down after being caught by Lossl. Quite a nasty connection and the midfielder stays down.

73: How’s he missed? Well he’s Phil Jones – that’s how he’s missed. Ashley Young whips the perfect delivery into the centre-back, who spoons it over from five-yards out.

70: These Huddersfield fans are absolutely loving this. “We’re going down,” is their latest chant. That came a few moments after an inaudible song about the new corner flag. Outstanding supporters.

68: “There’s nothing I like about this Manchester United team at all, it’s just awful. Look at them? They’re the most despondent group of people. Luke Shaw doesn’t know whether to go with his left or his right,” says Gary Neville on Sky Sports.

65: We’re not actually back underway yet because Isaac Mbenza ripped the corner flag out of the ground and a new one was required. The home supporters broke into celebration when a new one was found… six minutes later!

63: You should hear Gary Neville now. He’s absolutely livid with this Manchester United side. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is smiling on the bench in rage.

HUDDERSFIELD 1-1 MAN UTD | MBENZA

61: Awful. just awful. Honestly, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be utterly ashamed of that equaliser from Huddersfield.

Lossl collects a corner inside his six-yard box and thumps it long. Luke Shaw swings a leg at it, misses and Isaac Mbenza is left free to slot underneath David de Gea.

That’s the Terriers’ ninth home goal of the season…

59: I really don’t think Alexis Sanchez made any effort to stay on the pitch there. He went down clutching his foot and immediately signalled to the bench without even consulting the medical staff. Who knows, maybe I’m being harsh on the Chilean.

56: Well this is better. Ander Herrera has grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck while Tahith Chong is buzzing all over the place. Rashford creates space for Paul Pogba, who curls wide from 20 yards out.

54: This is actually the best thing that could happen in my opinion. Alexis Sanchez is down inured. He’s clutching his right foot and immediately calls to be substituted. Ander Herrera replaces him.

19-year-old Tahith Chong on for Nemanja Matic. Is that the last we see of Alexis in a Manchester United shirt?

51: There’s huge roars every time Huddersfield attack and Manchester united look rattled. The back four look so vulnerable. This time Grant drives down the right before cutting inside and curling over the crossbar.

48: Bad news from Stamford Bridge as Chelsea take the lead against Watford. Looks like that booing from the crowd did the business… Ruben Loftus-Cheek with the header. That lifts Chelsea above Tottenham into third place.

Ah, and as I write that David Luiz has doubled Chelsea’s lead. 2-0.

46: Departing owner Dean Hoyle made his farewell speech during the break. Quite an emotional speech followed by rapturous applause from all ends of the stadium. Top man.

HUDDERSFIELD 0-1 MAN UTD

45: I given up being confused by Manchester United. The Red Devils DO have a chance of a top-four finish but are playing like they’ve accepted Thursday night football.

I know it’s unlikely and not in their own hands – but If Watford manage to hold Chelsea to a draw then that final place could go down to goal difference. United are on +14 while the Blues are +21.

Shouldn’t Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side be trying to fill their boots?! Anyway, rant over and we’re underway again with Tommy Smith on for Erik Durm.

Twitter reaction

Robert: Am I the only one thinking Pogba has intentionally been playing poorly so United can let him go? The nonchalance in his movement and passes speak volumes to me.

Mike: United should be ashamed, this is disgusting to watch, games like these should be walk over, Manchester United are struggling against a relegated team.

Paul: Phil Jones will always be a liability and has no place at all in a Manchester United team.

HUDDERSFIELD 0-1 MAN UTD

HT: Strange one really. Manchester United looked set to brush Huddersfield aside in the early stages but completely stopped playing after Scott McTominay’s opener. Huddersfield are causing more than a few problems and arguably will feel they should be level.

If it’s any consolation – Chelsea have been booed off a half-time after being completely outplayed by Watford at Stamford Bridge. It’s 0-0 in west London.

45: Worrying signs with Marcus Rashford down with a head injury. The medical team are on for a few moments before the forward gets back to his feet.

44: Woodwork! Paul Pogba does well to acrobatically head Juan Mata’s cross towards goal – but the crossbar comes to Huddersfield’s rescue before Jonas Lossl collects.

43: Manchester United’s complacency nearly punished! Phil Jones’ suicidal pass is intercepted and Grant is sent clean through with David de Gea. The finish is unconvincing and the Spanish stopper blocks with his legs.

40: Juan Mata spins away from his marker before flicking it into the path of Marcus Rashford. Alert goalkeeping from Jonas Lossl to collect. Flicks and tricks are nice – but this match is far from over.

38: Phil Jones booked for a needless sliding challenge on the touchline. Sorry Phil, but why on earth did United extended his and Chris Smalling’s contracts?!

35: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be kicking himself if Manchester United don’t A) Keep a clean sheet and B) Win this match comprehensively. The Red Devils have had it SO easy but are starting to get complacent.

33: Alexis Sanchez ditches the gloves! It’s been coming for a while now with the Yorkshire sun blazing down. I would add that the gloves have been Sanchez’s biggest contribution to today’s game.

31: Huddersfield with a free-kick within range as Paul Pogba elects to fly into a 50/50 with his boot raised. Not too smart.

Anyway, Bacuna takes it… deflected wide. And the subsequent corner is cleared.

29: This match is rapidly turning into a massive opportunity for Manchester United. I know it’s early – but Watford are all over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Deeney, Pereyra and Deulofeu have all gone close.

Huddersfield vs Man Utd: Premier League table, fixtures, goals, score and updates

26: Pogba to Rashford to Mata… who curls it wide of the far post. In other, more important news, Paul Pogba has done away with his gloves at the 22-minute mark. Alexis Sanchez is stubbornly persisting though. More glove updates as they unfold…

23: Shot! First effort from Huddersfield falls to Bacuna, who fires just wide from distance. He probably should have slipped in Grant but the bobbling ball was just asking to be hit.

20: Some good news for Huddersfield, albeit a bit tenuous. Loanee Collin Quaner has just scored the winner for relegated, ten-man Ipswich against Leeds. I think he’s found his level…

18: Manchester United’s last two away Premier League goals have been scored by Scott McTominay – his goal vs Wolves on April 2 is their only goal in previous three away Premier League matches. Get him in the Fantasy team, lads!

15: Another free-kick in a prime position. Now which of Rashford, Mata & Pogba will take this one? A three-minute debate sees the Spaniard win his plea before firing into the wall.

12: Corner to Manchester United. Wo are relentless now. Victor Lindelof chests down the delivery under no pressure whatsoever. He can’t bring it under his spell before Terence Kongolo unleashed a comedy air kick.

9: Gary Neville on Jonas Lossl’s error: “That’s really bad goalkeeping. We saw David De Gea’s last week but that’s worse. I knew it was bad on first viewing but now that I’ve seen it again…that’s as bad as it gets. It’s a really bad error. There’s not much else to say. He doesn’t even put his hands down!”

HUDDERSFIELD 0-1 MAN UTD | MCTOMINAY

7: I have absolutely no idea what Jonas Lossl is doing here? He’s gifted Manchester United the lead with a ghastly error.

Huddersfield’s defending isn’t much better as Scott McTominay is allowed to drive forward before striking straight at Lossl, who doesn’t even attempt to use his hands.

The ball squeezes underneath the ‘keeper and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have the crucial opener.

6: I’d love to know Rashford’s success-rate from those Ronaldo-style free-kicks. Feel like I’ve seen him hit hundreds of those without any joy.

5: Alexis Sanchez’s first involvement is to win a free kick in a central position around 25-yards from goal.

Marcus Rashford tries his luck (obviously) from 30 yards out, but it’s straight into the hands of Jonas Lossl.

4: News from the Championship. Derby are winning 3-1 against West Brom which means they’ve virtually secured their place in the play-offs along with Leeds, Villa and West Brom.

News from the fashion world. Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez are both wearing gloves today. How long before they realise it’s actually quite mild?

3: You always get a cracking atmosphere at the John Smith’s Stadium. Today is no different. Solid effort from the relegated side.

Action on the pitch? Absolutely none. Both sides just passing it around the back trying to get a feel for the game.

HUDDERSFIELD 0-0 MAN UTD

1: Ok then… we’re underway! I watched Huddersfield against Liverpool last week and despite the 5-0 thrashing – they actually played very well in patches. Certainly good enough for a goal today if you ask me.

Twitter reaction

Jon: Sanchez honestly looks like he’s never played football in his life before. All I remember him doing last week when he came on was fall over twice, losing the ball. Can’t imagine anyone will want him in the summer. Probably score a hat-trick now I’ve said that!

Bondy: Couple of weeks ago, Arsenal were in a great position for top 4… three losses in a row that on paper we should have won. So frustrating that now we have to hope for another team to slip up

Medeska: For all the terrible performances by Sanchez at least he tries and gives effort. I guess. I’m reaching for a positive. He tries. That’s it.

Ten-minute warning

13:50: Nearly underway folks. Important to mention that Huddersfield owner Dean Hoyle has reached an agreement to sell the club to lifelong Terriers fan Phil Hodgkinson.

Hoyle, 52, will stand down after 10 years as chairman with the takeover expected to be completed later this summer.

So, this is his last home fixture as owner of Huddersfield. What a journey it’s been for the man. One final rollercoaster today?

GNev on Alexis

13:45: Gary Neville discussing Alexis Sanchez: “It’s an absolute mystery. I don’t know anybody who can put any science or sense behind what’s happened to him. It’s as if one of the most tenacious football players that you will ever see with and without the ball has just lost everything.

“That’s from his confidence to his energy, to his legs, to his dribbling ability, to his goals. There is nothing left in Alexis Sanchez at all. Everything is still waiting for him to turn up.”

Yep, perhaps we should consider offering a financial reward for the answer? Or even give credence to the possibility that he’s got an identical twin that nobody knows about…

Twitter round-up

Matthew: The race for the top 4 has been more like the race for Europa League. United leading the way but with 2 red cards and an injured Kane, Tottenham are still showing some promise. Too close to call at the moment.

James: Gooner fan since 97 and see a lazy, placid team, lacking stars or heroes, leaders or passion. Should be 3rd and comfortable. Manager delusional in cruise mode. Not good.

Patrick: Can we PLEASE take a moment to appreciate Mike Phelan’s socks?1

I’m glad someone said something, Patrick. Picture below for your and the nation’s enjoyment.

Transfer spree?

13:35: ‘Manchester United set to sign 250 players,’ is the headline I’m expecting to see after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s recent interview.

The Norwegian was asked about transfers and the potential arrival of a technical director.

“I’ll have a final say if players come in or go out and we’ve got regular meetings,” Solskjaer said.

“I’m happy with the way it’s going and we’re supposed to sign 250 players because you are all writing about players that we should sign.

“Hopefully we can get players in that you haven’t written about as well, you never know.”

Chelsea vs Watford

13:30: Maurizio Sarri’s side are playing Watford at Stamford Bridge at 2pm. Chelsea are in the driving seat for a top-four finish and could actually leapfrog Spurs into third position with a victory today.

Chelsea: Arrizabalaga, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Luiz, Alonso, Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic, Pedro, Higuain, Hazard.

Watford: Foster, Femenia, Mariappa, Cathcart, Holebas, Chalobah, Doucoure, Hughes, Pereyra, Deulofeu, Deeney.

Team News

13:25: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes three changes as Manchester United travelled to relegated Huddersfield.

Phil Jones, Scott McTominay and Alexis Sanchez come into the side in place of Eric Bailly, Ander Herrera and Romelu Lukaku.

The latter was absent from the squad along with Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard, with David De Gea starting in goal.

Huddersfield boss Jan Siewert also made three alterations, with Aaron Mooy, Chris Lowe and Alex Pritchard coming in.

Twitter reaction…

Kashy: If Anthony Martial thinks he deserves to play for Manchester United on a regular basis, that line up is a reality check for him. Alexis Sanchez starts ahead of him. Alexis Sanchez. That should make him wonder.

Ryan: Light the beacons of Gondor: Alexis Sanchez is starting a professional game of football.

Nathan: Is today the day that Alexis Sanchez looks like a footballer? Doubt it.

Not seeing much confidence in Alexis today. Not overly surprising given United have spent roughly £5.3million per-goal from the Chilean.

Leaky…

13:15: Manchester United have gone 13 league and cup matches without a clean sheet, the club’s longest run since a 16-game streak in 1970. I blame myself – I’ve had at least one United defender in my Fantasy Football side this season. Sorry!

Finish on a high

13:10: Pretty much the only thing Huddersfield manager Jan Siewert could say ahead of their Premier League home farewell.

The relegated Terriers have won just three matches in the league this season and Siewert wants to put on a similar performance this time around.

“The last home game should be very special,” the Huddersfield boss said. “A win would give us a good feeling and give the supporters something. We want to break the habit of losing.

“We have to focus on our game and our possibilities and how we can hurt them.”

Twitter reaction

Rob: Mata over Chong is a huge concern considering everything Ole says about chances being given and his desire to bring through youth. Juan will be gone in months yet he gets more game time than a lad who’ll be in the rotation for years and years.

Tom: It’s 2019 and Ashley Young is still starting for my club.

Garry: Manchester United have not lost a game in which Alexis Sánchez has started in since the FA Cup final over a year ago.

Bit of a tainted statistic that, Garry…

Starting XI…

13:00: And the line-ups arrive. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hands Alexis Sanchez a rare start.

Huddersfield XI: Lossl, Kongolo, Schindler, Durm, Lowe, Hogg, Bacuna, Mooy, Mbenza, Pritchard, Grant.

Subs: Coleman, Smith, Kachunga, Diakhaby, Mounie, Stankovic, Daly.

Manchester United XI: De Gea, Lindelof, Jones, Young, Shaw, Matic, McTominay, Pogba, Mata, Sanchez Rashford.

Subs: Grant, Smalling, Pereira, Fred, Dalot, Herrera, Chong.

DDG…

12:55: Seems bizarre to be talking about this – but David de gea’s form has left us very little option.

Crowned United’s player of the year in four of the past five seasons, there is little chance of De Gea picking up the award again this term given the way things have gone recently.

De Gea has made a serious of high-profile blunders as talk about his future continues, with last weekend’s gaffe allowing Chelsea to seal a 1-1 draw that hampers United’s top-four hopes.

Chance to make amends today because Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s already said he’s starting today.

Afternoon…

12:50: Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Premier League.

I’ve been racking my brain trying to think of a nickname for today’s three fixtures. It’s obviously all about the battle for a top-four finish but there’s nothing catchy.

Your current options are: Top-four Sunday, UCL decider, four-way finish or my personal favourite – four the throne…

Yep – all terrible suggestions.

Anyway, you all know the situation. Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are all seeking Champions League qualification and with all three in action today – there’s a huge amount at stake.

Ole Gunnar-Solskjaer’s sixth-placed side sit three points adrift of Chelsea and one behind Arsenal with just two fixtures remaining and appear destined for the Europa League next season.

Ready for the line-ups? Standby…
