HRVY has opened up about fearing for his safety after meet and greet events have been mobbed by thousands of fans.

The singer, 20, whose real name is Harvey Leigh Cantwell, recently had an in-store performance shut down after just four minutes, when thousands of fans flooded into Bluewater to try and get a glimpse of the star.

It’s not the first time he’s been overwhelmed by the amount of fans that have turned up to see him, telling JD Sport’s The Duffel Bag podcast: ‘I did a meet and greet in Leicester Square about two years ago and I was like whoever wants to come down, come down, I’m going to meet some of you guys and say thank you.

‘I think that is was like 3000 people in the Square and the police came then we had to get out with like a police vehicle.

‘We had to go inside a pub and lock ourselves in and they [the fans] were banging [the door].

‘It was insane and that was quite overwhelming. At one point I felt quite unsafe, that’s why we had to leave.

‘It was nuts, like insane, and that’s when it got scary and overwhelming.’

HRVY’s recent meet and greet and performance at JD Sports in Bluewater was shut down in November, as the shopping centre struggled to cope with the volume of fans storming in to try and get to him.

The event had advertised just 150 wristbands guaranteeing entry to the event, but fans that didn’t manage to get in the list still came to try their luck on the day.

He also had to beg fans to stop turning up at his family home after they found out his address, and would arrive at his front door trying to meet him and get a selfie.

HRVY explained that the Leicester Square event surprised him, admitting: ‘We didn’t realise, I didn’t realise there would be that many people – I just thought you know just come say what’s up and get a picture.’

He added: ‘You have to kind of remove yourself, not just for yourself but for everyone else’s safety because there’s little girls, there’s parents and there’s people that aren’t even there for the meet and greet because we’re in Leicester Square, tourists, and you don’t want to be responsible for that.’
