How to pick up cheap surplus food so you can fill your fridge for less

WANT to fill your fridge without emptying your wallet?

Morrisons is now working with the Too Good To Go app to give away £3 boxes of “nearly at their sell-by date” items.

The good news is that there are also other great apps to help you save on food while also cutting back on waste.

Let me know how you get on with these . . .

Too Good To Go: This lets you buy from restaurants, takeaways and shops selling surplus food at discounts.

Prices vary but you will generally end up with items three times the value you paid.

I’m excited about Morrisons signing up — the offer is currently available in around 80 stores, with hopes to roll it out further.

Olio: Connects you with neighbours and businesses wanting to share spare food.

This could be home-grown veg, bread from your local baker or groceries from someone’s fridge when they go on holiday.

The app can also be used for non-food household items, saving you even more on your weekly shop.

NoWaste: This helps you manage what is already in your fridge, creating lists of what you have left and what is about to go off.

It is super-easy, allowing you to scan barcodes and receipts to keep track of items.

It will help you plan meals, write shopping lists and avoid unnecessary purchases.

Karma: Works in a similar way to Too Good To Go, although it is not available in quite so many locations.

Still, it is worth checking out for the chance to bag discounted restaurant, cafe or grocery foods.

I will be having a browse for tea tonight.
