How to get plane tickets to Madrid for Champions League final: Expedia reveals top tips

On June 1, Liverpool will battle Tottenham in the UEFA Champions League final at Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, Spain.

Since both teams made incredible comebacks in the semi-finals, Brit supporters have been booking flights out to the Spanish capital.

However many airlines, like easyJet, have increased prices to fly out to watch the two teams in Atlético Madrid’s home stadium.

But according to Expedia, there’s still a chance to get your hands on flights and accommodation to the Champions League final.

Here are five top tips on getting to Madrid:

1. Look at accommodation in neighbouring towns such as Ávila, Guadalajara or Toledo.

On the match day, you can get a train to the city centre to enjoy the celebrations.

For example, El Encanto Hotel & Cafetería in Avila has two nights for £221.

2. Stay for longer and make a week out of it.

Prices for flights earlier in the week and after the Champions League final weekend are a lot cheaper than traveling on the Friday or Saturday to Sunday.

3. If you don’t mind a scenic train journey, opt for a flight to Seville rather than Madrid.

You can get a return flight, travelling Thursday to Monday, plus four days accommodation for £1,113.

4. Rather than booking separately, check out the package prices on Expedia.co.uk – where you can bundle costs and get a reduction in price.

5. Try indirect flights and utilise stop-overs. By flying via cities such as Milan, you can enjoy two great European cities over one long weekend.

An Expedia spokesperson told Daily Star Online: “We know that British football fans are some of the most passionate around the world just by looking at our search data around match times.

“Most fans book flights and accommodation as soon as fixtures are announced, but interest also soars when teams are victorious.

“After Liverpool won against Barcelona, searches for the weekend of the Champions League final in Madrid were over seven times the normal amount.

“After the equally sensational qualification of Tottenham, the interest doubled even further.

“It’s clear that football fans are more than willing to travel around the world for the sport, so by offering flights, accommodation and activities, we hope to make booking trips to support their teams as hassle-free as possible.”
