How to get cigarettes and alcohol delivered to your home

SHOPPERS who are self-isolating or don’t want to leave their home can now get cigarettes and alcohol delivered to them via takeaway apps.

Online delivery services including Deliveroo and Uber Eats have started partnering with local convenience stores to get food and produce to more customers during the coronavirus crisis.

But as well as groceries and other essentials, shoppers can also buy cigarettes and alcohol from some corner shops by using these apps.

In Deliveroo, you’ll find a “grocery” tab when you log into the app where the delivery service lists all its convenience store partners.

As well as local stores, Deliveroo is also now working with supermarkets including Co-op and Morrisons – both of which are selling cigarettes and alcohol.

If you have one of these supermarkets near you, you’ll find them under this tab.

How does Uber Eats compare to supermarket prices?

HERE are some of the items we found on Uber Eats compared to how much they cost at supermarkets.

Of course, do bear in mind that Uber Eats prices will vary depending on the shop and where you are in the country.

  • Buitoni penne rigate pasta – £1.59 on Uber Eats / 29p for a similar bag at Tesco
  • Free range eggs x6 – £1.99 on Uber Eats / 95p in Asda and Sainsbury’s
  • PG Tips 116g – £3.49 on Uber Eats / None in stock at this size
  • Princess tuna chunks in sunflower oil x1 – £2.49 on Uber Eats / £1.25 at Tesco
  • Pringles 200g – £3.99 on Uber Eats / £1.25 at Asda, Sainsbury’s, and Tesco
  • Semi skimmed milk 2l – £2.09 on Uber Eats / £1.35 at Sainsbury’s and Tesco

Total: £15.64 at Uber Eats vs £5.09 at major supermarkets, although no PG Tips in stock

When The Sun checked today, both supermarkets are selling packs of cigarettes and bottles of booze for roughly the same price as they are in stores.

Prices will vary when it comes to corner shops.

Independent and smaller chains are likely to charge more than the supermarkets but it could be a handy alternative at a time when it’s next to impossible for most to get online delivery or click and collect slots.

You’ll also be charged a delivery fee per order, which again will vary depending on where you shop.

Some shops will also have limits on how much alcohol and cigarettes you can order.

For example, the Co-op has a limit of two packs of cigarettes and two bottles of alcohol per customers.

Deliveroo also brings up a message if you’re ordering age-restricted products, saying you may be asked for ID if you don’t look over 18.

On all alcohol products, Uber Eats says you have to be 18 years old to purchase so you may be asked ID from your delivery driver if you look under-age.

Uber Eats also says it won’t deliver alcohol to anyone who is already intoxicated.

We couldn’t find cigarettes being sold on Uber Eats.

Uber Eats says it has more than 600 convenience stores on its app, although not all of these will sell alcohol.
