How to get cherry blossom petals in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Cherry blossom is on all the trees in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but how do you get the petals to craft the outdoor picnic set?

For almost the next two weeks it’s going to be Bunny Day in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the game’s equivalent of the Easter holidays.

That means there’s lots of egg-themed items to find and craft but it’s not the only thing that’s changed since last month. All the non-fruit trees have sprouted cherry blossom (a very important cultural event in Japan) and the petals are used in some exclusive, time limited DIY recipes.

There’s going to be multiple recipes during the month that use cherry-blossom petals but on the first day you can only guarantee to get the one Isabelle mentions in her daily update, for an outdoor picnic set.

You can get other recipes, such as the one for Cherry-blossom bonsai, from balloons that are floating around, and perhaps via other means as the month progresses.

The Japanese-themed picnic set needs 10 cherry-blossom petals but although the trees are covered with them you can’t just pick them off by hand.

Instead, you’ve got to wait until you see a lone petal floating about in the wind, a bit like a butterfly. When you do, whip out your net and catch it like you would a bug.

It’s as simple as that, but petals aren’t that common so you have to keep an eye out for them, and it may be a few days before you catch enough to make everything you need.
