How Samsung helps entrepreneur Kim Chin unleash her creativity

fter 15 years in the fashion industry, working her way up to design director for a range of global brands, London-based textile artist Kim Chin is now launching her own design company, Shadow Saboteur.

But she’s not quite alone – Samsung is with her every step of the way.

In her London atelier, where she assembles her mood boards for inspiration, she uses her Samsung Galaxy S21 phone to transfer those initial ideas to her Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 5G, where she develops them into new digital creations. She then transfers them to linocut and prints out on a traditional roller press.

How Samsung helps the creative process

It’s a creative process that combines her love for the materiality and texture of things with the intuitive freedom that Samsung’s laptop effortlessly supplies.

”I take a photograph of the linocut, clean up the image using programs on the computer, and use the S Pen to draw directly on screen,” she says. “Then it’s pretty intuitive, adding in layers to create colours and shadows.”

Once she’s transferred her final design from laptop to textile, she hand sews the finished result.

“It adds another dimension that gets you excited about what you do, and I love it,” she says. “Right now, I think this is my vehicle for connectivity.”
