Stefanos Tsitsipas booked his spot in the semi-finals of the ATP Finals on Wednesday night with a resounding win over Alexander Zverev, but the race to join him in the final four is very much on.

Rafael Nadal earlier earned a dramatic win over Daniil Medvedev, saving match point at 5-1 down before winning 6-7 (3-7) 6-3 7-6 (7-4), to keep his hopes of reaching the semi-finals alive, but his destiny is not in his own hands.

Should Zverev defeat Medvedev in their final round robin match, he will join Tsitsipas in the semi-finals, with the Greek emerging as group winner. That would see Tsitsipas take on either Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic, who will fight it out for second spot after both losing to group winner Dominic Thiem.

If Zverev doesn’t win, a Nadal win over Tsitsipas will see him advance to the semi-finals as group winner, meaning he is guaranteed to face Federer or Djokovic should he progress.

Medvedev can also squeeze through. Should he beat Zverev in straight sets and Tstisipas beats Nadal, he will progress in second place.

Thiem will avoid Nadal regardless of Friday’s results. He could face any of Tsitsipas, Medvedev and Zverev dependent on results.
