Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen is back on our screens again on Thursday night as he takes on BBC One’s Celebrity Painting Challenge.

The flamboyant presenter will be showing off his brush skills alongside fellow celebs including Josie D’Arby, Amber Le Bon, George Shelley, Phil Tufnell and Jane Seymour.

And while you might imagine his interior design skills would come in handy when it comes to painting, even he is forced to admit: ‘I’d forgotten how hard this is,’ when faced with a life-drawing challenge in the first show.

Here’s what you need to know about Laurence.

How old is Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen and how did his career start?

The presenter, who is 54 years old, was born on 11 March 1965 in Kensington, London.

Prior to TV stardom Laurence’s career was in interior design, starting his own design consultancy in 1989.

That career has continued to this day, with Laurence putting his stamp on furniture, soft furnishings, crockery, cutlery and more via The House Of Laurence.

He joined Littlewoods to design ranges for them in 2012 and still sells furniture and other products via the website Very.

Laurence was a part of the BBC One show – which saw people swap homes with their neighbours or friends and makeover a room in each house – from its beginnings in 1996.

Originally he was the designer on the show but took over as presenter for the final two series in 2003 and 2004

He appeared alongside presenter Carol Smillie, builder ‘Handy’ Andy Kane and fellow designers Linda Barker, Anna Ryder Richardson and Graham Wynne.

What other shows has Laurence appeared on?

His TV career has also included appearances on Popstar To Operastar as a judge (sharing space on the panel with Meat Loaf and Katherine Jenkins) as well as shows including DIY SOS: The Big Build, Hidden Houses Of Wales and ITV’s House Gift.

Laurence has been married to wife Jackie, who has a successful career as a wedding planner as well as working alongside her husband.

The pair appeared together on ITV’s Stepping Out, featuring celebrity couples learning to dance, in 2013 – finishing in third place.

They have two daughters, Cecile and Hermione, and are grandparents to Cecile’s two-year-old son Albion.

Celebrity Painting Challenge is on BBC One on Thursday night at 8pm.
