Jose Mourinho will be given a £2million bonus if he guides Tottenham Hotspur into the top-four this season.

The former Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid boss signed a £15million-a-year contract until the end of the 2022/23 season but can still top that already handsome sum up if he delivers an unlikely top-four finish, according to The Sun.

Spurs are 11 points clear of fourth-placed Manchester City after 12 games played, but only three points off fifth-placed Sheffield United, despite currently languishing in 14th in the Premier League table.

While City will be expected to be Liverpool’s main title contenders, Chelsea’s youthful side and Leicester will be viewed by Mourinho as catchable, although it would require a fine run between now and the end of the season.

Spurs have only won three times all season and Mourinho will be keen to add a fourth in his first match in charge in the Saturday lunchtime kick off against West Ham.

While Mourinho has declared the title race as being out of reach for his men this season, he believes they can challenge next time around.

In January it’s expected the Portuguese coach will bolster his options.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is available on a free transfer and could arrive on a short-term deal, while Nemanja Matic – who he has worked with at Chelsea – Benfica defender Ruben Dias and Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes have also been added to his shortlist.
