What is Amazon Prime and how much does it cost?

More than 80million are said to have signed up for Amazon Prime, whose benefits include free delivery and streaming media.

It costs £7.99-a-month or £79-a-year for Brits, although you can sign up for a 30-day free trial if you’re not sure you want to commit.

However, some industry experts have predicted that this fee will go up – which could become more likely following the purchase of Premier League rights.

In the US, the price has been bumped up to $110 a year, which with current exchange rates is more expensive than in the UK.

And industry watcher Daniel Ives told The Sun Online: “We believe a similar price increase can come to the UK.”

He said we are “likely” to see the possible rise in “late summer”, which could mean August or September.

The official website states: “Prime members can watch thousands of movies and TV shows with Prime Video, listen ad-free to hundreds of hand-built playlists and access two million songs with Prime Music.

“Safely store an unlimited amount of photos or get 30-minute early access to Lightning Deals and of course enjoy unlimited One-Day Delivery on millions of items.”

Another bonus is being granted access to live music events for Prime members only.

Prime members are also able to take part in special events like Amazon Prime Day.

Can I watch Premier League games on Amazon Prime?

Amazon has entered the Premier League rights market by agreeing a deal to televise 20 matches per season from the 2019-20 campaign.

In doing so, the online retail giant became the first internet streaming service to buy live rights in the UK.

It has bought the rights to one full Bank Holiday round of games and to one further midweek round for the three seasons beginning 2019-20, the Premier League announced.

BT has purchased the one other outstanding package of rights left available, taking its total to 52 matches per season under the new deal.

Sky Sports will still show the lion’s share of matches, but BT pinched 32 Saturday games earlier in 2018.

Which TV shows and films are available on Amazon Prime?

Your payment card should then not pay for the next month’s subscription charge and the Prime benefits will be removed.
