Roy Keane has slammed Harry Maguire once again with his withering assessment of the Manchester United captain’s attempt to rally the under-fire squad.

Following last Monday’s dismal defeat to Wolves, widespread reports have claimed there are deep-rooted divisions in the United dressing room with interim boss Ralf Rangnick now battling to unify the group.

Maguire, who has come under severe criticism for his poor performances this season, gave an interview with the club’s website on Saturday, admitting players are ‘angry’ with recent results but insisting the dressing room remains united.

Former United skipper Keane however took no comfort from Maguire’s comments, insisting he will wait for an upturn in performances instead of listening to ‘whatever rubbish’ the United captain comes up with.

‘How many times has he said that?‘ Keane told ITV when quizzed on Maguire’s interview.

‘I wouldn’t listen to too much of what Harry has got to say.

‘I always say I’ll judge a player on what he does on the football pitch not what rubbish he comes out with about players sticking together and needing to do more.

‘I’ll judge a player on what he does on the football pitch and United aren’t doing enough.

‘Aston Villa at home, United need to turn up and find a performance but it hasn’t been happening recently.’

Maguire has done little to impress Keane this season with the former Republic of Ireland international branding the defender an ‘embarrassment’ following his goal for England against Albania back in November.

Maguire – who had faced significant criticism for his performances against Leicester City, Liverpool and Manchester City – cupped his hands to the crowd and then put his fingers in his ears – a celebration that infuriated Keane.

‘He’s been a disgrace the last few months for Man United,’ Keane said at the time. ‘He thinks because he’s scored there he’s going to shut his critics up? Embarrassing.’
