The Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road has spanned countless remixes and catapulted the young musician into international fame.

Now, the infuriatingly catchy bop has made history by being Billboard’s longest-running number one song

How long has Old Town Road been topping the Billboard chart?

Old Town Road, which features country star Billy Ray Cyrus, has spent a whopping 17 weeks in the number one spot on Billboard’s chart.

This makes it the song to have held that position for the longest time ever – beating 2017’s Despacito by Justin Bieber, Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi, which held the top spot for 16 weeks.

Old Town Road has also beat Boys II Men and Mariah Carey’s song One Sweet Day, which was number one for 16 weeks back in 1995.

Lil Nas X took to Instagram yesterday to celebrate his song’s success, saying: ‘Last year in October, as a struggling artist starting to lose faith in what I could be, I went looking for beats on YouTube.

‘I remember clicking on so many generic sounding beats trying to find the right one for me. when suddenly I came across a country-trap sounding masterpiece.

‘I immediately knew I would make something special out of it.’
