KATE Garraway’s husband Derek Draper has been critically ill in hospital with coronavirus since late March 2020 .
Derek’s TV host wife has been open about her husband’s progress and spoke about staying strong for their children during the last “clap for carers” on May 28.
In an Instagram post in late May 2020 Kate shared that her “fear for Derek goes on”.
“When I think of how hard Derek is fighting and the bravery of the #nhs it helps.”
She added: “Even if we don’t clap next Thursday it won’t diminish my eternal thanks to all in the NHS.
“They are keeping Derek alive & everyone of them is fighting as hard as Derek is to give us the chance to be reunited. Hope has to keep us all going doesn’t it?”
Kate and her family haven’t been able to visit Derek due to NHS guidelines, but staff have held a phone up so that she can talk to him and play music over FaceTime.
Many stars such as Piers Morgan and Ben Shephard, who she hosts Good Morning Britain with, have sent their best wishes to the star and her husband.
Piers tweeted: “This breaks my heart. Few happier, more positive people than @kategarraway. Or a more loyal, decent friend & colleague.
“So many families like hers going through so much unimaginable anguish in this crisis. Sending all my love to Kate & continuing to root for Derek.”
She’s thanked everyone for their ongoing support and wished other family’s going through similar struggles her best wishes.
