How England could look at Euro 2020 with one uncapped player preparing to make his mark

England head to Prague to take on the Czech Republic on Friday, as part of the Euro 2020 qualifiers.

Gareth Southgate’s team boast a 100 per cent record in Group A so far, picking up a maximum 12 points.

Only Spain, Belgium and Italy have also won all of their matches in the competition so far, with a clash against Bulgaria on the horizon for England.

With Euro 2020 less than a season away now, Southgate will be thinking about who he’ll be taking with him on the plane.

James Maddison could be included in Southgate’s final 23-man squad for the tournament.

The Leicester City midfielder is yet to claim a cap and was in line to make his debut this weekend. But, he’s had to pull out of the squad through illness.

Jordan Pickford is likely to be selected in goal for England’s first match of Euro 2020, as he’s seemingly a Southgate favourite.

His place in the team has come under scrutiny in recent weeks, however, after a decent start to the season for Nick Pope.

Trent Alexander-Arnold will be England’s right-back going forward, with Kyle Walker seemingly out of the picture.

Harry Maguire and John Stones remain England’s best centre-back partnership, while Ben Chilwell will likely be selected on the left ahead of Danny Rose and Luke Shaw.

Declan Rice has emerged as the nation’s best holding midfield player, edging out Eric Dier.

If he was to make his debut, Maddison would feature in the middle of the park, although he and Mason Mount would be in more advanced, attacking roles.

Southgate’s front three write themselves these days, with youngster Jadon Sancho on the right-hand side, providing bursts of speed while running at defenders.

Raheem Sterling will occupy his favoured left wing position, with captain Harry Kane the lone striker.

A number of uncapped players may make the squad, despite not featuring in Southgate’s starting XI.

Harvey Barnes, Tyrone Mings, Todd Cantwell, Conor Coady, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Rob Holding, and Joe Willock could all be in with a chance of making the cut.
