How Eden Hazard ‘p****d off’ Thibaut Courtois during Real Madrid debut

Eden Hazard finally made his Real Madrid debut yesterday as Los Blancos beat Levante 3-2 but not everyone was left happy with his performance.

Hazard has been battling a thigh injury he suffered in pre-season and was only fit enough for Zinedine Zidane to name him on the bench at the Bernabeu.

But he did get his chance, replacing Brazilian midfielder and goalscorer Casemiro with half an hour left and Real already 3-1 up.

Hazard showed some rust and came close to creating a goal for Madrid but also gave the ball away – much to the frustration of ex-Chelsea team-mate and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

‘He almost scored a goal with what he did [in attack],’ Courtois told Movistar. ‘He has a lot of pace with the ball, it’s what he does.

‘But I got a little p***** off with him because he lost the ball twice.’

Hazard made his dream move to Real Madrid over the summer in a deal that could end up costing the Spanish giants as much as £130million.

Courtois had already made the same move 12 months earlier but since his Belgium team-mates arrival, they have hardly even trained together.

‘What he needs now is to train more. He has only done four workouts with the team,’ Zidane said.

‘When he touches the ball he has a lot of versatility.’

And much as Zidane will be desperate to have Hazard back to full fitness, he was more concerned by Madrid’s defensive performance.

They have now conceded six times in four games in the league and are a point behind leaders Atletico.

But it could have been even worse had Courtois not made a late save to ensure Madrid did not end up sacrificing a 3-0 lead they had amassed before half-time.

‘The second half was more complicated for us, especially at the beginning,’ Zidane added.

‘When the opponent scores a goal after three minutes it is difficult.

‘But we got three points. We must not look for excuses, the important thing is to keep the first part of the game and play more minutes as the first part.

‘We can improve a lot, we have to play better.’
