A horse was seen waiting for the train on a South Shields metro platform.

In the photo the animal appears to be waiting calmly on the platform at the unmanned metro station in Brockley Whins.

Thankfully, it was led back to its field by a quick thinking member of the public before it could join commuters on their way in to work.

A photo of the horse was posted on Twitter by Will Mapplebeck.

He captioned it: ‘Just when you think you’ve seen it all on my metro, a horse at Brockley Whins this AM.

‘Funny, but potentially dangerous for the animal. Reported to station staff and control room by fellow passengers.’

While travelers were bemused to see their four legged fellow commuter, Nexus, the company in charge of Tyne and Wears metro, reduced train speeds in the area until it was sure that there was no danger of a collision.

When one of their staff arrived to scope out the scene they found that the horse had already been led back to the field it had escaped from.

A spokesman for Nexus, said that the situation was now under control.

‘Trains were cautioned through this area of the line while the incident was dealt with’, he said in a statement

‘This involved alerting drivers and reducing speeds of trains.

‘Brockley Whins is an unstaffed station so staff were sent out to deal with the incident.

‘Before they got there a member of the public led the horse away and put it safely back into the nearby field that it had escaped from.’
