Horizon Zero Dawn key art — Horizon Zero Dawn – a sequel is not exactly a surprise

The one for a Technical Vegetation Artist on the Guerrilla Games website doesn’t specifically say you’d be working on Horizon Zero Dawn 2, but there’s not really any other way to interpret the following job description:

‘Within Guerrilla, we have four teams dedicated to creating the stunning environments of Horizon. One team focuses on the creation of lush and stunning vegetation. We build these 3D models from scratch, so our world dressing teams can deliver our immersive world with industry-benchmark graphics.’

Maybe if this was close to the original game’s release you could imagine it was DLC but it’s far too late for that and with the PlayStation 5 just a year away now it’s obvious they’re talking about a sequel.

Not that Guerrilla Games has ever made much effort to hide the fact they’re working on a sequel, as art director Jan-Bart van Beek was talking about adding ‘more machines’ almost immediately after the first game was released.

Other developers have been making not-so subtle references to the game ever since, and Tatai actress Janina Gavankar accidentally mentioned plans for a sequel earlier this year.

The only real question is whether it’s going to be a launch title or not. There’s no way to tell that based on the leaks so far, although it will have been well over three years since the first one by the time you get to next Christmas – which is probably enough time.

A Horizon Zero Dawn sequel is not the only thing Guerrilla Games are working on at the moment though, with the studio having doubled in size recently and believed to be working on some sort of new multiplayer game with the director of Rainbow Six Siege.
