Homeland star Damian Lewis says it's time for a ginger 007 to hog the limelight

HOMELAND actor Damian Lewis wants to be the next James Bond as he thinks it’s time there was a ginger 007.

The 48-year-old star has been touted as one of several actors who might take over from Daniel Craig as the famous British secret agent.

But he has always shied away from admitting he would want the role.

However, Lewis – who has also appeared in TV shows Band Of Brothers and Billions and movies such as Once Upon A Time In Hollywood – has finally confessed he would not mind being Bond.

But he says it is only because it is high time we had a ginger haired one.

The star tells Radio Times: “By the time they finally finish making the next Bond film, I’ll be old, decrepit.

“But on the other hand, from a diversity point of view, don’t you think it’s about time we had a ginger Bond?”

In the past Lewis has joked that 007 is not very good at his job.

He said: “The great thing about Bond is how bad a spy he is.

“Bond makes endless mistakes.”

Bookies Ladbrokes are offering odds of 10-1 on Lewis being Bond.

Their joint three favourites are James Norton, Richard Madden and Tom Hiddleston on 4-1.
