Hollywood stars reveal sex scenes secrets from sponges to whoopee cushions


Hollywood have mastered some of the raciest sex scenes on TV and in the cinema – but how do actors make it look so real?

Movie stars have revealed the unusual methods they used to pull off the show-stopping sex scenes in some of our favourite films.

Actors and actresses haven’t been shy about what gave them the confidence to film the steamy scenes.

Anyone who was going to watch Fifty Shades of Grey knew it was packed with BDSM sex scenes.

Leading actor Jamie Dornan opened up about using a “wee bag” to hide his genitals.

The star joked he didn’t mean the bag was small and quickly clarified it was not “wee in size”.

He didn’t mind sharing his on-screen sex secrets while he was being grilled on Jimmy Kimmel’s chat show.

At the time, he said: “Well, that’s an expression from where I’m from—a wee bag. But it doesn’t mean it’s actually wee in size. I wear quite a big bag!”

Cinematographer Bartek Cierlica took fans behind the sex scenes to see what really unfolded.

Cierlica claimed the key to mastering the art of sex on-screen was making the camera as “invisible as possible”.

This also worked by reducing the number of TV crew so the actors felt comfortable performing.

Cierlica told  Variety : “We wanted the camera to be as much invisible as possible, to let them act, so indeed the takes were very, very long…

“We created the most intimate atmosphere we could for the actors. We reduced the on-set crew to an absolute minimum.

“As it was handheld I was following their action, and trying to show their passion in a natural but beautiful way. We wanted this sex to be pretty authentic.”

Another infamous sex scene in cinema played out in David Fincher’s Gone Girl.

The graphic sex scene saw Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike) slash her ex boyfriend Desi Collings’ throat during the heat of the moment.

Neil Patrick Harris – who played the ex – said the sex scene was choreographed like a dance routine by the director.

The actor recalled every fine detail was set out for the actors and actresses which made the sex scenes “weird” and “almost robotic”.

He told  Out magazine : “We had to rehearse the sex scene with David, like every inch of it — ‘Then you put your mouth on his d— here, and then this number of thrusts, and then you ejaculate.’

Neil Patrick Harris – who played the ex – said the sex scene was choreographed like a dance routine by the director. The actor recalled every fine detail was set out for the actors and actresses which made the sex scenes “weird” and “almost robotic”

“It was weird because we’re technically breaking down the sex scene. He wanted it to be almost robotic, that we know exactly where we are, position-wise, where everything goes.”

Despite appearances, the actress confessed she was absolutely mortified about having to film sexy scenes.

She told  Daily Mail Australia : “I went back behind the partition and thought, “S***, what am I going to do? I’ve got to get this together.”

The blonde bombshell confessed it was an “incredible challenge” to nail the scenes but she made it look easy.

She elaborated: “I read one scene and I thought, “I don’t know how I can pull that off. How can I make teabagging real?”

“It became this incredible challenge to fall onto the bed in a different way each time.”

Teabagging is when a man puts his testicles into his lover’s mouth.

Oscar-winning Olivia Colman had a different tactic as she used an unusual barrier between her legs in The Favourite.

Actresses Olivia and Emma Stone could simulate the sex acts without fear of “finding something you shouldn’t find”.

The Favourite star picked out a big wet sponge from the make-up department to form the barrier.

She said on the Graham Norton show:  “Emma Stone was worried about me though because she had to finger me under the sheets. In order to avoid finding anything you shouldn’t have found…

“I asked the makeup department if they had a sponge.”

She added: “I put a sponge there and I said ‘it’s alright, there’s a barrier, you’ll be fine’… It was a big wet sponge. She was going up my leg and her face was a picture when she reached it! ‘It’s alright, it’s a sponge, it’s a sponge!’’
