A veteran Hollywood publicist has exposed the truth about fake celebrity romances.
Appearing on Mamamia’s The Quicky podcast this week, Jack Ketsoyan said that the staged relationships are all to build ‘hype’ around whatever the star is trying to promote.
Having set up two fake relationships during his lengthy career, Jack – who has represented the likes of Jennifer Lopez – recalled one that ‘took away from people asking him about how much of a flop the movie was to asking about their relationship.’

Without naming names, Jack said the stars had a deal to have a year-long fake romance, and that the woman actually got a ‘career boost’ out of it and is now a ‘household name.’
‘It was more of a mutual agreement between the agents and we had a movie that was coming out and it had a lot of bad reviews and a lot of slack and they wanted to take the negativity of the movie away and make it more about him,’ Jack said.
‘So we found him a girl… it worked. It took away from people asking him about how much of a flop the movie was to asking how their romance is.’

Jack said that in the past, fake relationships would often be used to cover up if a leading man was gay, but now it’s all about the ‘hype.’
‘It’s to be able to sell the hype of it and tickets – whether to a concert, album, whether it’s getting people to go to see the movie, it all about the hype at the moment,’ Jack said.
‘With the social media world… nobody is reading magazines as they used to, things spread like wildfire.’
He added that ‘Hollywood is a very small town and people talk.’

She reportedly told Now magazine: ‘To be honest that was a horrible experience. If someone says to you, “hey, let’s be in a fake relationship!” You’re like, “no, that’s not what I want!” I didn’t even know that kind of thing went on.’
Amy added that she told Joey to take her on a date and when she said she wanted to do her ‘own thing,’ he stopped talking to her.
Meanwhile former MAFS stars Jessika Power and Nick Furphy have been accused of faking their relationship for publicity.
Former MAFS star Telv Williams said the pair’s romance was fake, but Jessika hit back, telling Daily Mail Australia last week: ‘I am sick of defending myself over Telv and his lies. I really wish he would just leave me alone and let me live my life.’
