Holly Willoughby shut down Nick Ferrari in a This Morning debate over the Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny, in a segment Phillip Schofield called their most ‘bizarre’ debate ever.

(And that really is saying something).

The discussion came about after New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern classed the fictional characters as essential workers during the coronavirus pandemic to ease the minds of children.

On This Morning, the debate did indeed take a weird turn – Vanessa Feltz started out talking as if the Tooth Fairy was actually real (and if any children are reading this…of course she is).

But it was journalist Nick Ferrari who caused outrage when he disagreed with the practice entirely.

‘If you are a paramedic, if you are a nurse, if you are a bus driver,’ he explained. ‘To be compared to the Tooth Fairy…I think it’s rather weird.’

This did not impress Holly, Phil or Vanessa – who all exploded in defence of Arden’s words at the same time.

‘I don’t think she was comparing them,’ Holly admitted. ‘I think she was eleviating concern…look how cross we all are!’

Phil added: ‘This is all four of us talking!’

Holly did seem to see the funny side of things, though.

When Nick said: ‘When I stand and applaud at every Thursday at 8pm, I’m not applauding the Easter Bunny,’ she had to quickly hide her giggles in her jumper.

Holly and Phil previously explained that This Morning was still continuing to air live due to the show being classed as an essential service.

Phillip continued: ‘The government has classed us as essential service for the time being to bring you the latest news on the virus, to answer your concerns with our doctors, to offer useful advice and to hopefully lighten the load as only This Morning knows how.’

Prime Minister Boris Johnson previously ordered Brits to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary to leave the house for food supplies, exercise or if you’re a ‘key worker.’

At the time of writing, the UK has confirmed 51,608 cases of COVID-19, with 5,373 deaths.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
