Holly Willoughby shared what she called the “obligatory” selfie of the This Morning team as they got together in a lift for the National Television Awards
Holly Willoughby has shared an “obligatory lift selfie” of the This Morning team as they crammed into the cramped space at the National Television Awards.
The 40-year-old co-host of the ITV daytime show was delighted when This Morning once again won the gong for best daytime show and the team was full of smiles in the selfie after they picked up another award.
Holly was joined by her usual co-host, Phillip Schofield, 59, in the selfie along with fellow This Morning presenters Ruth Langsford, Eamonn Holmes and Rochelle Humes along with behind-the-scenes members of the show and regular contributor, Zoe Williams.
Captioning the pic, which ended with a red heart emoji, Holly wrote: “The obligatory lift selfie… Waking up with a full heart this morning… thank you once again… we love making this show and to pick up this award means so much to the whole team… congratulations to everyone at @thismorning … huge love.”
Holly and Phillip were overjoyed with the win and in their acceptance speech on stage, Phillip thanked the whole team who worked on the show.
“We are always massively, massively proud of This Morning and our family and our team,” he said while holding the gong.
He said that the show wanted to be “everyone’s comfort blankets” and a slice of normality, despite the coronavirus pandemic.
“What was amazing for us was, every single day, because of the brilliance of ITV, we could stay on air and we could be there. We felt like we were everyone’s comfort blankets, but for all of us, you were our comfort blankets too.
“Thank you for that, thank you for being there with us and also thank you to my best friend.”
Holly then took over the microphone, where she insisted her and her presenting partner were “just one cog in the wheel”.
“This Morning is an incredible team, and we are lucky to just be one cog in the wheel,” she added.
“We just wanted to give you a normal morning, thank you for voting, it means the absolute world.”
Phillip and Holly are renowned for enjoying their NTA wins to the full, often presenting This Morning in their outfits from the night before after hitting the bars.
This time it will be different as the pair are not working today and Phillip has promised he will be “off his face” during the celebrations.
Speaking to MailOnline, Phillip said: “We really bloody wanted this more so this year than ever before. We’d all been tin hats on in a studio with no people.
“All the people were on but we were kept on air. Amazing group of people kept us on every day. It’s been a s****y year times three.
“We are now off until Monday for the first time ever so I am off my face in about five minutes. I want to say my best friend [Holly] was incredible… she is the best friend to have.”
Holly added: “We needed some normality, a normal morning. Had we not have had This Morning the whole thing (pandemic) would have been worse it felt like we were all in something together.”
