Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield shut down rumours of a rift and insist they are "best mates"

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield have hit back at rumours of a rift after reports claiming they had clashed.

The This Morning duo, who have presented the show for 10 years, insisted they are “best mates” and are “very lucky.”

Speaking on BBC Newsbeat, Schofield said: “We have such a laugh. We’re best mates, she’s like the sister I never had. I just adore working with her, she’s just perfect,” while Willoughby added: “We’re very lucky.

“You couldn’t do the amount of hours of TV that we do with each other without getting on.”

Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby enjoy family holiday together

Willoughby then pointed out that she and Schofield still go on yearly holidays together with their families.

Their denial comes after The Sun claimed Schofield was left feeling “jealous” after Willoughby won a Bafta for her presenting stint on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2018.

A source was quoted as telling the newspaper: “Phillip was furious. He didn’t want Holly mentioning her triumph when they reunited on This Morning.

“It felt very petty and bitter for someone who is his close friend. But it felt like he was jealous.”

Yesterday the pair were all smiles at the Dancing on Ice launch in Hertfordshire.

They will return to present Dancing on Ice 2020 in January – a role they held from 2006 to 2011 and then returned to in 2018.
