Red list countries were first announced back in November. The list comprises 35 nations that are banned from entering the UK. Those with residence rights in the UK can enter but must carry out hotel quarantine for 10 days at their own expense.
“What we want to do right now is get the system up and running,” he added.
Travel expert Paul Charles, CEO of travel consultancy, The PC Agency, concurred.
He announced on Twitter that he understands the red list expansion will be announced on Monday.
“My latest understanding is: 29 March – more countries to join red list,” Charles tweeted.

On March 19, Ethiopia, Oman, Qatar and Somalia were all added.
However, there is still hope that countries could be removed from the red list.
Mauritius and Portugal (including Madeira and the Azores) were all taken off last week.
