Travel comparison website is a great way to save money when booking holidays. By comparing flights from all different airlines, as well as hotel and even hire car packages, these sites uncover the cheapest tickets on offer. However, it seems some websites are better than others when it comes to helping customers bag a budget holiday.

Following closely behind in second place is Tripadvisor, which was also commended for its functionality and money-saving abilities by customers.

The website scored three stars consistently across all categories in the survey.

It also came out on top as the website to offer travellers the best deals on hotels.

Customers point out some of the websites easy-to-use functionality, saying they liked being able to compare prices for a hotel and read customer reviews side by side.

Rory Boland, Which? Travel Editor said: “Holidaymakers are known to spend hours and sometimes days looking for the best hotel rates and the best airfares, so for many of us travel comparison sites are the first port of call.

“There are really only one or two sites you should consider using though if you want to save yourself both money and time.”

For passengers with flexibility on the day they fly, it turns out one day leads the way for the lowest prices flight tickets.

Research by travel experts at myBaggage.com worked out that flight costs on 25 December are on average 32.5 peecent lower than flights leading up to the big day.

Meanwhile, they also discovered that certain destinations see prices drop by as much as 80 percent.

In a survey of 100 direct short and long haul routes from Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton and Stansted airports, My Baggage looked at the price of a single, direct one-way ticket, in economy class, with one checked bag and taxes included.

Out of the destinations assessed, 60 cost at least 30 percent less than in the days leading up to 25 December.

However, some of the best savings could be made on flights to Germany, with the price of flights to Cologne, Stuttgart and Dusseldorf boasting reductions of approximately 80, 71 and 70 percent respectively.

Booking up as far in advance as possible is the best option when it comes to saving money, however, last-minute deals can be snagged.

Experts from Expedia explain flights change all of the time, so checking at different times of the day and remaining open to your date of travel is the best way to bag a bargain.

A My Baggage spokesperson added: “For those travelling at one of the busiest times of year, picking the right day for family finances and stress levels can be a challenge.

“Shopping around will normally get you a better price on your flight and having the flexibility to depart on Christmas Day itself for your festive getaway could make a huge difference to your personal finances at one of the busiest times of the year.”
