We all go a bit wild on holiday, but it appears this holidaymaker left all his inhibitions at home as he deliberately drove his car into the sea.

The bizarre moment was caught on one of the CCTV cameras of a local ski-boating club on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast in South Africa after a pal of the man allegedly dared him to pull of the reckless stunt.

The little green Volkswagen Golf can be seen speeding across the sand before the vehicle gets submerged in the waves.

The driver can then be seen opening the door and walking out of the car, with witnesses saying he smiled and gave onlookers the thumbs up to assure them he was okay.

The man, who is believed to be from South Africa’s Free Estate, is said to have been holidaying by the KZN South Coast on Monday when the incident took place.

The car had to be towed out by a tractor following the stunt.

Shelley Beach Ski-Boat club secretary Brenda Johnson said she was in her office when he drove into the sea.

She told News 24: ‘When I went to look, the car was floating and the man was standing there giving people the thumbs up, indicating he was not injured or in distress.

‘When I checked our CCTV footage, I saw that he just drove into the ocean. What we heard later was that it was a dare. One of our tractor drivers pulled the vehicle out.

‘Normally the only thing that go into the ocean here are boats. To see a car go in, and to see it done deliberately, was strange. It was not very clever. ‘

Johnson added that the incident attracted a crowd and helped ‘brighten up’ the Monday afternoon.

The driver is believed to have escaped unhurt, but it is unclear if the police are investigating the incident.
