Holiday booking site Late Rooms collapses

The company behind hotel booking website LateRooms.com has collapsed into administration.

Malvern Group is also behind York-based tour operator Super Break which currently has about 400 customers on holiday in the UK or overseas.

Travel industry body ABTA today said customers who have booked directly with Late Rooms are advised to contact the hotel concerned.

“We understand that payments were made directly to the hotels and therefore bookings should go ahead as planned,” it said.

Most Super Break customers affected should be able to get a refund for their trip. ABTA added that those already away should be able to continue with their holiday as normal.

The two companies had about 53,000 customers between them.

“The majority of customers are yet to travel and in most cases they should be able to obtain a refund, either through ABTA or another financial protection scheme, depending on the type of booking,” ABTA said.

“The vast majority of holidaymakers’ arrangements will be covered.”

Malvern Group has closed its call centres for the two businesses.

Hugo Kimber, Malvern’s executive chairman, said: “This is a devastating blow for all of our wonderful employees who have invested so much time and effort into building Malvern, its brands and trips technology platform.

“This is equally difficult for all our suppliers, partners and customers who will be impacted by this news. To be so close to delivering our goal of an integrated, dynamic and commercially successful business, that could provide significant value through its innovative products, is heart-breaking.”
