Hideo Kojima wants to make smaller, weirder episodic games (and movies and comics)

Hideo Kojima – he’s got a famous new friend

The creator of Metal Gear and Death Stranding has been talking about more future project and how Oscar Isaac is a big fan.

Since it was never going to be a game that appealed to everyone, Hideo Kojima is probably quite pleased with how Death Stranding was received last year.

The question now, for him and his fans, is what he does next, with the only hint so far being that he’s interested in making a new horror game.

In a new interview in Famitsu though he, and long-time collaborator Yoji Shinkawa, mused over a number of other possible projects, including the fact that they want to make something even weirder than Death Stranding.

According to a translation by DualShockers, Kojima already has his next ‘big’ game in mind, but apparently he would also like to make smaller games, possibly episodic or digital-only ones.

However, he doesn’t seem entirely certain about whether he’ll have time for that, compared to the big project, and there’s no hint whether any of them are the horror game he was musing about.

But other than just games, the pair seem just as interested in working together on projects in other media, with Kojima once again predicting that cinema and games will merge together into one artform in the future.

As such, he says he wants to make his own movie, an anime, and a manga, with Shinkawa involved in all three. Apparently the anime, and possibly the movie, would involve a lot of mecha, as Shinkawa didn’t have a chance to design many for Death Stranding.

Kojima’s tendency to rewrite his own history was in evidence again though, as he claimed that Death Stranding is his best received game, which is demonstrably false from just a quick glance on Metacritic.

He has made a new celebrity fan though, mentioning that Oscar Isaac had visited the studio to play Death Stranding and is apparently a bit of a gamer. So maybe he’ll turn up in the next game.
