Heung-Min Son says it was an ‘easy’ decision to commit his long-term future to Tottenham after agreeing a new four-year deal that will keep him in north London until 2025.

The South Korean, who enjoyed another excellent campaign last season, was due to be out of contract in two years’ time, prompting fears he might leave the club with European giants such as Bayern Munich circling around him.

But Spurs have managed to tie down one of the Premier League’s best attackers and the 29-year-old is delighted to be staying at the club for the foreseeable future.

‘It was already a big honour to play here for six years, the club have showed me massive, massive respect and obviously I’m very happy to be here,’ he told Spurs’ official website.

‘It’s like home, especially with the fans, the players, the staff. There was no decision. It was easy. I’m so happy to be here and will be so glad to see the fans again soon.’

Son was one of only three players – the other two being teammate Harry Kane and Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes – to reach double figures for goals and assists last season.

The clinical forward, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, netted 17 goals last season as well as laying on 10 assists, cementing his status as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous players.

Committing Puskas Award winner Son to a new long-term deal is the first major landmark of new director of football Fabio Paratici’s reign, with the Italian saying: ‘We are pleased to have agreed a new long-term contract with Heung-Min Son as we move towards the start of a new season and a new chapter for the club with Nuno Espirito Santo.

‘Everyone can see the real positive impact he has on the club, both on and off the field, and we are delighted that he will play a part in what we are trying to achieve in the coming years.’

Spurs are expected to have a very busy summer, with the club adamant they will resist any approaches for Kane while they are looking to seal a trio of new arrivals: goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini, his Atlanta teammate Cristian Romero and Sevilla winger Bryan Gil.
