Heston launches ‘Full English sandwich’ as part of his Waitrose range

Heston Blumenthal is renowned for exploring…interesting flavour combinations, so it goes without saying that his newly-launched Waitrose sandwich is more than just a traditional bacon and egg sarnie.

The new ‘Full English’ sandwich, which is available in Waitrose stores and online from today, 19 August, is everything you’d expect from a classic British breakfast – and more.

Featuring specially-created baked bean-flavoured bread, smokey crumbed sausage, smoked bacon, free-range sliced egg, cold pressed mayonnaise, tomatoes and cannellini beans in sauce – all finished off with a coffee-flavoured mushroom ketchup, it’s certainly something a bit different.

Speaking about his latest culinary concoction, Heston said: “There are many reasons why some dishes become our favourites, they can be complicated masterpieces of culinary delights. But there are times when all you want is a Full English.

“So I looked at how to satisfy that craving, any time, anywhere and I realised the solution was a sandwich. If you’re looking for the best brunch-on-the-run, or just wondered what it might be like between two slices of bread, you’re going to love this. It’s even got the coffee in there.”

Twitter users, however, have mixed feelings about the new launch.

The Heston from Waitrose Full English sandwich launches in shops and at 19 August.

It’s priced at £3.80, with a 25% off introductory offer (£2.85).
