HERSHEYPARK has an exciting new rollercoaster opening next year.
Candymonium will be the Philadelphia theme park’s fastest, tallest and longest ride.
The hypercoaster will feature three sweet-themed trains, based on Hershey’s Kisses, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and Twizzlers.
Climbing 200ft, passengers will then ride at speeds up to 75mph across 4,636ft of track.
With a ride time of two minutes and 26 seconds, it is also the longest ride for Hersheypark.
The ride is being designed by rollercoaster designer Bolliger & Mabillard – the Swiss design firm behind rollercoasters Nemesis and Oblivion at Alton Towers, as well as The Swarm at Thorpe Park.
Candymonium is part of the park’s 2020 expansion plans, spanning over 23 acres.
Part of the $150m (£122m) plan is Chocolatetown, scheduled to open next summer.
It will feature the largest themed restaurant in Hershey, the Chocolatier Restaurant, Patio + Bar, with 400 seats.
There will also be Milton’s Ice Cream Parlour, named after the owner, where 12 ice cream flavours will be created every day.
Along with ice-cream, a confectionery kitchen called The Sweeterie will have over 50 varieties of sweets to try and take home.
Retail shops and a Starbucks will also feature in the new town.
The story behind the park is that it was built by the US-Willy Wonka, Milton Hershey, the man behind US chocolate brand Hershey’s.
He opened the theme park in 1906, originally making it for his workers to relax and have leisure time.
The park, situated in the town of Hershey which is also where Hershey’s factory is, has 14 different rollercoasters.
The Cocoa Cruiser is perfect for little ones, while the wooden Wild Cat rollercoaster goes at 45mph and has been open at the park since 1923.
The most intense ride is the Skyrush, which climbs to 200ft in the air and flies at up to 75mph.
There’s also the Hershey’s Great American Chocolate Tour – where you’ll get to make your own customised bar at the end.
There’s a bakery, a chocolate tasting experience and even a virtual Hershey’s factory where you can see how the chocolate is made.
When fans aren’t overdosing on chocolate – which is a very real possibility – they can head to the Hershey Gardens.
These have 275 varieties of rose – and some flowers in the kids’ part of the garden even have a chocolate scent.
There’s even a hotel you can stay at called Hotel Hershey, which has a spa offering treatments such as cocoa baths and massages.
Day tickets cost $41.95 (£34) for adults and $31.95 (£25) for children.
Other quirky theme parks include Chester Ice Cream Farm in the UK with life-size ice creams and fruit to play on.
Diggerland, while also popular with guests, is unusual – as it simply features digger trucks to play on.
Grown up chocolate fans should head to Italy for the annual Eurochocolate festival.
