Here’s where you can see the coolest TV and movie rides ever – LA Daily News

The most sophisticated and impressive vehicles in the world are coming to the Petersen Automotive Museum this weekend.

But these amazing rides don’t stand out because they get incredible gas mileage or because they are going to save the Earth with their green technology.

Nah, forget all that.

These are dream machines. These are cars and other vehicles that have weapons installed as standard equipment, that can travel at totally unsafe speeds and can even bend the laws of time.

These are the rides that make up the “Hollywood Dream Machines:Vehicles of Science Fiction and Fantasy” exhibit, which opens this weekend and runs through March 15, 2020.

Set up in the museum’s Mulin Family Grand Salon, the exhibition includes more than 40 vehicles from films, TV shows and video games on display.

You’ll recognize rides from films such as “Back to the Future,” “Mad Max,” “Blade Runner,” and video games like “Halo.”

There will be a lot of cool cars, bikes and hybrid rides on display along with costumes and props from the films and shows.

And with so many mean machines you’ll need a guide to figure out where to start, so we picked our top 5 dream machines on display based on how cool they look and their abilities on and off the road.

Knight Industries Two Thousand “K.I.T.T.”

TV show: “Knight Rider”

Abilities: Forget about Siri in your little iPhone, K.I.T.T. is a talking, thinking, and slightly egotistical but charming computer in control of a 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. The car is shinny black with a pulsating front scanner called the Anamorphic Equalizer that acts as the car’s electronic eyes and can see in x-ray and infrared. The interior is just as cool with that jet-style steering wheel and before cell phones, it had Facetime too with an in-dash video communication system, plus super speed, silent mode so you can’t hear it coming, oil jets, smoke screens, and even flame throwers. Yeah, it’s sexy, tough and smart — all any driver could ever ask for.

DeLorean Time Machine

Movie: “Back to the Future” franchise

Abilities: All it needs is a little plutonium (which is probably cheaper than gas these days), space to get up to 88 miles per hour and thanks to the flux capacitor, this machine can take you places no other car can. Not even a fancy Tesla can take you back in time to make your dorky dad cool and bring you back to a much improved home life.

Tron Light Cycle

Movie: “Tron Legacy 2010”

Abilities: This is the updated version of the Light Cycle in the original 1982 movie. And the upgrade is possibly the coolest looking motorcycle ever. It’s long, slick and looks like it’s going 100 miles per hour even when it’s not moving. It  turns on a dime, leaves a deadly light wall wherever it goes and it’s easy to park too since it is generated from a baton the rider can easily carry around.

Batmobile

Movies: “Batman” (1989) and “Batman Returns” (1992)

Abilities: This is a no-brainer because, except for time travel, there really isn’t much this car can’t do. It has things like a grappling hook launchers, a cool after-burner, and shields. Plus, it just looks super cool.

Mach 5 Prototype

TV Show and movie: “Speed Racer” animated series (1967-68) and the 2008 film “Speed Racer.”

Abilities: While it can’t actually reach Mach speeds the famous car can go go go anywhere and get there first thanks to gadgets that should be standard in all race cars such as tire shields to prevent attacks from opponents, grip tires to drive on anything and rotating front saws to inflict maximum damage on opponents.
