Here’s when you can vote for The Golden Joystick Awards

The Golden Joystick Awards will return on November 15th, 2019. Celebrating “everything that makes gaming great”, the awards will take place at London’s Bloomsbury Big Top, London. The event will also be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.

Now in its 37th year, The Golden Joystick Awards is the world’s largest and longest-running public-voted gaming awards. The shortlist – will be announced on September 20th – will feature over 20 categories to vote for, including your favourite Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One games of the year. “Last year three awards were incredibly close with less than one hundred votes separating first and second place,” a press release states, “so start thinking about your favourite games now to be sure you support your favourite”.

God of War took home five awards last year – including Studio of the Year for developer Sony Santa Monica – but it was not enough to keep Fortnite from scooping Ultimate Game of the Year. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Mobile secured mobile game of the year, while the top PC game award went to Subnautica. Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki was also in attendance to receive the ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award “from his childhood heroes Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone, authors of the seminal Fighting Fantasy novels”.

Last year, we asked a number of industry professionals why they believed the Golden Joysticks have remained popular for almost forty years. Square Enix’s PR manager Ian Dickson told us: “As an industry we have an incredibly passionate group of fans, and the Golden Joysticks provides a platform that allows them to have their voices heard in a meaningful and positive way.”

“The Golden Joysticks is a key moment in the year when the industry empowers the players to have their say on the releases that were most entertaining, the most enjoyable and the most important to them this year,” added Rich Eddy, director of communications and events at Jagex. “It’s player democracy and engagement that gives our audience a voice.”

Tickets and sponsorship of the event is now available for trade customers only.
