Henry Cavill lost weight after James Bond director's comment

Henry Cavill has revealed his staggering weight loss from a ‘chubby kid’ to Hollywood hunk was spurred on by a James Bond casting director.

The actor, 36, was a final choice for the role of 007 in Casino Royale back in 2005, but was pipped to the post by Daniel Craig.

In an interview with the December issue of Men’s Health magazine, Henry said he was motivated to shed the pounds after the film’s director, Martin Campbell, branded him ‘a little chubby’.

The Superman star admitted he is ultimately grateful for his honesty, because he had ‘no idea how to train or diet’ prior to hearing the comment.

‘I probably could have prepared better, I remember the director, Martin Campbell, saying, “Looking a little chubby there, Henry”,’ the actor said.

‘I didn’t know how to train or diet and I’m glad Martin said something, because I respond well to truth. It helps me get better.’

In the candid interview, Henry admitted he was teased relentlessly over his weight as at school.

The actor was bullied as a child and it got worse when, aged 13, he arrived midway through the first term at Stowe- one of Britain’s most prestigious public schools where fees are more than £9,000 a term.

‘I was a chubby kid, I could’ve very well gone down the route of just accepting my lot in life and being like, “I guess I’m not going to do anything”,’ Henry said.

‘It actually helped me survive, even the kids who were nasty to me at times and took pleasure in squashing me—when I finished a play, they’d say, “Wow, you’re really good”, and I was like, “Okay, this is where I draw my strength from”.’

Henry, who revealed he was nicknamed ‘Fat Cavill’, was made to feel an outcast from the start and would cry down the phone three times a day to his parents because he was so homesick.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E star previously spoke about the cruel playground taunts he experienced at the private school.

He said one classmate even pointed out his ‘rolls of fat’ looked like he had ‘t**s’.

‘They used to call me Fat Cavill,’ Henry told Men’s Fitness in 2015. ‘I actually had rolls of fat on me.’

‘They also called me a “lemon”, a guy who gets nowhere with the girls.’

On playing such iconic roles Henry told the publication he didn’t want to be a ‘dumpy Geralt’ or a ‘fat Superman’.

Henry said he doesn’t think he’s a ‘golden god’ but is proud of how he has managed to transform his physique and she the pounds.

The fitness enthusiast added he gets an extra boost of confidence when he takes his clothes off ‘in front of your significant other’ and they tell him “you look great!”.
