Helena Bonham Carter has gone public with her new romance, five years after she split from long-term partner Tim Burton.

Helena and Tim dated for 13 years and welcomed two children, but for the past year Helena has been moving on with Rye Dag Holmboe, a 32-year-old Brit whom it is thought she had been dating since October 2018.

Now, the Alice In Wonderland actress has made her first public appearance with Rye, after admitting that it was time to find love again when she realised she was ‘bored’ of grieving her former relationship – and that Rye has become ‘a bit of unexpected magic’ in her life.

The 53-year-old – who will star as Princess Margaret in the upcoming third season of The Crown – told Harper’s Bazaar: ‘You break up, you grieve, you get bored of grieving.

‘And then you finally move on’.

Speaking of Rye, she added: ‘I’m very happy with someone else. It’s been a bit of unexpected magic in my life.’

The pair were both in attendance at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year awards, held at Claridge’s on Tuesday, with Rye offering Helena his arm as they posed for pictures.

Helena has starred in a number of Tim Burton films over the years including Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street, Alice In Wonderland, Dark Shadows, The Corpse Bride and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

In the early 1990s, Helena was in a highly-publicised relationship for years with Kenneth Branagh after their affair while he was married to Emma Thompson.

When Kenneth and Emma divorced in 1995, he and Helena were together until 1999 when she began her romance wuith Tim.

In 2016 she revealed that the death of a relationship was ‘utterly bewildering’.

‘Your identity, everything, changes,’ she added, with the Oscar-winning actress telling the Sunday Times that although she is in the public eye from starring in a slew of Hollywood blockbusters, she still believed it was okay to show emotion and be vulnerable in difficult times.

‘Everyone always says you have to be strong and have a stiff upper lip, but it’s OK to be fragile,’ she said.
