She added: “I would try to keep up by laughing and nodding – then somebody would ask if I understood and I would say no. They thought I was bonkers.”
However, Helen said she learned a lot about motherhood from her time in France.
One difference she found was that French mums would use jars of pureed baby food to feed their children while British mums tended to avoid it.
Helen said: “French mums think that’s ridiculous. They have no problem pulling out jars of puree if they are busy whereas some mums I know in Britain feel they have to apologise if something isn’t home-made and organic.
