Heathrow strike update: Airport issues latest walkout alert for July 26 amid summer chaos

Heathrow Airport has issued an update to passengers fraught with worry at the prospect of a strike from July 26. A total of 4,000 employees are set to walk out at Heathrow – the UK’s largest and busiest airport – from July 26 starting off a series of strikes throughout the summer. UK passengers travelling on a host of airlines have taken to Twitter to express their fury at the potential mass travel disruption and today Heathrow vowed to keep them “updated”. In a new message posted to its Twitter page, Heathrow confirmed talks with unions were ongoing – but the strike threat and pay dispute had not been curtailed as a resolution has not yet been found.

It posted: “Talks continue at ACAS today to avoid industrial action on 26/27th July.

“We apologise for any uncertainty this may cause you, but we remain committed to finding a solution.

“Please keep in touch with your airline, they are best placed to confirm the status of your flight.”

Replying to an understandably agitated Briton, set to travel on the affected date, they added: “We’ll share any new information as soon as we have it.

“Please keep an eye on our Twitter page, or you can also check our Facebook account.”

In a separate message, the airport stated: “We recommend that passengers flying on the dates in question contact their airlines as they will have the most up to date flight schedules and can advise you if there have been any amendments to flight times.

“Heathrow will be keeping passengers updated on the talks as they continue with ACAS.”

Unite union, supporting the workers in their action, has vowed to “shut down” Heathrow as security guards, engineers and passenger service drivers walk out from July 26 to July 27.

Further strike action is planned for August 5, 6, 23 and 24.

Meanwhile further strikes starting on the same day are set to affect easyJet travellers from Stansted.
