HBO cancels highly-anticipated Game of Throne prequel axing Naomi Watts

Execs at the network have thrown for a Game of Thrones prequel into the bin after shooting a full pilot episode in Northern Ireland earlier in the year.

It’s been alleged that plans to scrap the show were made several weeks ago but HBO chose not to confirm the news.

Screenwriter Jane Goldman was forced to change the show after HBO producers slammed her original attempt for the prequel focusing on the Age of Heroes.

Sadly for fans, the pilot that was filmed will never be aired.

Tvline.com claims that the pilot episode was “troubled” due to “budget overruns, numerous personal issues and myriad creative differences.”

Naomi Watts has allegedly been axed along with the upcoming prequel

The cutting of the Game of Thrones prequel is a shock twist in HBO’s succession plan for the most popular and biggest Emmy award-winning series, ever.

However, fans can rejoice as a second prequel focusing on the Targaryen Civil War is allegedly still in the running, after bosses have given the green light for a 10-episode season of House of The Dragon, set 300 years before the original series which ended in May this year.

Sadly, the casting and air date for the upcoming series have not yet been announced.

Despite a pilot episode being filmed, it will never be aired

Fans will be happy as another prequel is being created

The announcement came from HBO programme president Casey Bloys during a presentation for HBO Max, a streaming service that will launch in May 2020.

Author of the legendary books, George R R Martin is credited as a co-creator for the upcoming spin-off show.

Ryan Condal, who also co-created the prequel will chair as executive producer along with Miguel Sapochnik.
