Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has given an astonishing interview just weeks before he is due to stand trial.
The former film boss, 67, is accused of five counts of rape and sexual assault.
He could be jailed for life if convicted on all charges. Last week he reached out-of-court settlements with an unnamed number of people.
But now he has made the controversial decision to talk to PageSix ahead of the case in the New Year.
He complained: “I made more movies directed by women and about women than any filmmaker, and I’m talking about 30 years ago.
“I’m not talking about now when it’s vogue. I did it first! I pioneered it!
“It all got eviscerated because of what happened. My work has been forgotten.’’
Weinstein was reduced to releasing a hospital photo this weekend in an attempt to distance himself from rumours he is faking illness.
The 67-year-old was in court last week using a walking frame to help him keep his balance.
But some have accused the fallen star of trying to gain sympathy.
But a spokesman said he underwent a three-hour back operation in New York on Thursday.
“Harvey has been in agony and underwent surgery on Thursday,” a statement read. “We don’t know if he will need further surgeries.
“The idea he is faking his illness is ridiculous.”
The movie mogul’s trial is due to start on January 6.
Lawyer Donna Rotunno said last week that his health is getting worse.
“Mr Weinstein’s health has been deteriorating since August when he had the unfortunate accident,” she said.
“He had tried to manage the discomfort, but as the pain got worse and the various different courses of treatment failed to remedy the problem, he began to rely on a cane and a walker.
“He did not want to appear in court using the assistance of those, for fear of exactly what some media turned it into.”
